Miscellaneous

[edit]
  • Westmeath arguably enjoy their best ever season of championship hurling. Three successive victories allowed them to qualify for their first, and to date their only, Leinster decider.[2]
  • That All-Ireland final was the first to be played outside ofCroke Park and, indeed,Dublin for thirty years. A builders' strike delayed the construction of the Cusack Stand in Croke Park meaning an alternative venue had to be found and the newFitzGerald Stadium inKillarney was chosen.[3]
