• 22 June – the 31st InternationalEucharistic Congress opens inDublin Pro-Cathedral, the greatest gathering of Church dignitaries that Ireland has ever seen. The "Blue Hussars", the ceremonial Mounted Escort of theIrish Army, make their first public appearance as a guard of honour for the Papal Legate,Cardinal Lauri.
