The1931 Temple Owls football team was anAmerican football team that representedTemple University as an independent during the1931 college football season. In their seventh season under head coachHeinie Miller, the Owls compiled an 8–1–1 record and outscored opponents by a total of 158 to 42. They shut outMount St. Mary's (33–0),Penn State (12–0),Bucknell (0–0),Haskell (6–0), andDenver (18–0), defeatedMissouri (38–6), and sustained their only loss in a close game withCarnegie Tech (19–13).[1]

The team's assistant coaches wereBert Bell, who later served as commissioner of the NFL, andOx DaGrosa.[2] Regular players included fullbacks Corny Bonner and Jack Driebe, halfbacks Lorne Johnson, Chris Zahnow, Jack Reynolds, and Alex Kilkuskie, quarterback Leon Whittock, ends Jack Geston and Len Gudd, tackles Karl Klinger and Jimmy Roraspaugh, guards Bill Pulley and Ed Smith, center "Bull" Lipski. Guard Joe Bannak was the team captain.[2]

The team played its home games atTemple Stadium inPhiladelphia.
