Hilton defeatedFarmer–Labor nominee and former member of theWisconsin State AssemblyRoy C. Smelker andDemocratic nominee James E. Doran.[1]
On election day, 7 November 1922,Republican nomineeClifford L. Hilton won re-election by a margin of 64,814 votes against his foremost opponentFarmer–Labor nomineeRoy C. Smelker, thereby retaining Republican control over the office of attorney general. Hilton was sworn in for his third full term on 3 January 1923.[2]
