The 1916New York Yankees season was the club's 14th season. The team finished with a record of 80–74 for their first winning season as the Yankees (and their first in 6 years when they were still officially known as the Highlanders) finishing 11 games behind theAmerican League championBoston Red Sox. New York was managed byBill Donovan. Their home games were played at thePolo Grounds. This would be the final season that the famous "NY" logo would appear on the front of the jerseys until 1936.

The game was on April 20, 1916, atGriffith Stadium against theWashington Senators. PresidentWoodrow Wilson threw out theceremonial first pitch. The Senators, behindWalter Johnson, defeated New York, 12–4.[1]
