26 February – theRoyal Flying Corps establishes the first operational military airfield forfixed-wing aircraft in the United Kingdom atMontrose.^[1]
21 April – theCunard ocean liner RMS Aquitania, built byJohn Brown & Company, is launched on theRiver Clyde.
27 May – LieutenantDesmond Arthur dies when hisRoyal Aircraft Factory B.E.2 biplane,205, collapses without warning while flying overMontrose, Scotland's first fatal aircraft accident.
6 June –Stoneyetts Hospital is opened at East Muckcroft (later part ofMoodiesburn,North Lanarkshire), originally for the treatment of people withepilepsy.^[2]
