The1910 Iowa Hawkeyes football team was anAmerican football team that represented the State University of Iowa ("S.U.I"), now commonly known as theUniversity of Iowa, as a member of both theMissouri Valley Conference (MVC) and theWestern Conference during the1910 college football season. In their first year under head coachJesse Hawley, the Hawkeyes compiled a 5–2 record, shut out five of seven opponents, and outscored all opponents by a total of 94 to 15.[1][2] They finished in second place in the MVC with a 3–1 record in conference games. In the Western Conference, they finished in fourth place with a 1–1 record in conference games. With victories overMorningside,Iowa State, andDrake, the Hawkeyes claimed the undisputed championship of Iowa.[3]

On November 5, 1910, Iowa defeatedIowa State by a 2–0 score, the only points being scored on a safety as Iowa State fumbled while trying to kick from behind its goal.[4] It remains the lowest scoring game in Iowa football history.[5]

Mike Hyland, who played at the end and fullback positions, was the team captain.[6] Playing at the tackle position from 1909 to 1911,Archie Alexander was the second African-American to play football at Iowa. (Frank Kinney Holbrook was the first.)[7]

The team played its home games atIowa Field inIowa City, Iowa.
