190 Ismene is a very largemain beltasteroid. It was discovered by German-American astronomerC. H. F. Peters on September 22, 1878, inClinton, New York, and named afterIsmene, the sister ofAntigone inGreek mythology.

Being aP-type asteroid, it has a very dark surface. Ismeneorbits near the outer edge of the asteroid belt. It is one of the largest members of theHilda asteroid family, which are locked in 3:2resonance with theplanetJupiter.[5]
