On election day, 3 November 1908,Republican nomineeJacob F. Gmelich won the election by a margin of 177 votes against his opponentDemocratic nomineeWilliam Rock Painter, thereby retaining Republican control over the office of lieutenant governor. Gmelich was sworn in as the 27thlieutenant governor of Missouri on 11 January 1909.[1]
