McKinley defeatedDemocratic nominee and incumbent acting lieutenant governorThomas Lewis Rubey,Socialist nomineeWilliam Lincoln Garver,Prohibition nominee Andrew T. Osbron,People's nominee Abram E. Nelson andSocialist Labor nominee Theodore Kaucher.
On election day, 8 November 1904,Republican nomineeJohn C. McKinley won the election by a margin of 9,000 votes against his foremost opponentDemocratic nomineeThomas Lewis Rubey, thereby gaining Republican control over the office of lieutenant governor. McKinley was sworn in as the 26thlieutenant governor of Missouri on 9 January 1905.[1]
