Clabaugh defeatedDemocratic nominee andincumbent member of theMaryland SenateCharles C. Crothers,Prohibition nominee William Frank Tucker andIndependent candidate Bernard W. Monett.[1]
On election day, November 5, 1895,Republican nomineeHarry M. Clabaugh won the election by a margin of 16,337 votes against his foremost opponentDemocratic nomineeCharles C. Crothers, thereby gaining Republican control over the office of attorney general. Clabaugh was sworn in as the 21stattorney general of Maryland on January 3, 1896.[2]
