The1892 United States presidential election in Alabama took place on November 8, 1892. All contemporary 44 states were part of the1892 United States presidential election. Alabama voters chose eleven electors to theElectoral College, which selected thepresident andvice president.

Alabama was won by theDemocratic nominees, former PresidentGrover Cleveland ofNew York and his running mateAdlai Stevenson I ofIllinois. However, Weaver performed well in theSouth as he won counties in Alabama,Georgia,Mississippi,North Carolina, andTexas. Weaver was endorsed by a majority of Republicans in a fusion arrangement, while a minority of Republicans running a straight party ticket for Harrison.[1] Populists did best in Alabama, where electoral chicanery probably carried the day for Democrats.[2]

Campaign

[edit]

Weaver won sixteen counties, five were in theBlack Belt while the remainder were white counties.[3]
