The1857 Minnesota State Auditor election was held on 13 October 1857 in order to elect the firststate auditor of Minnesota uponMinnesotaacquiring statehood on 11 May 1858.Democratic nominee and former member of the Minnesota Territorial House of RepresentativesWilliam F. Dunbar defeatedRepublican nominee Alexander P. Lane.[1]
On election day, 13 October 1857,Democratic nomineeWilliam F. Dunbar won the election by a margin of 1,192 votes against his opponentRepublican nominee Alexander P. Lane, thereby retaining Democratic control over the office of state auditor. Dunbar was sworn in as the 1ststate auditor of Minnesota on 11 May 1858.[2]
