The1854 North Carolina gubernatorial election was held on 3 August 1854 in order to elect theGovernor of North Carolina.Democratic nominee and former member of theNorth Carolina House of RepresentativesThomas Bragg defeatedWhig nominee and former member of theU.S. House of Representatives fromNorth Carolina's 3rd districtAlfred Dockery.[1]

General election

On election day, 3 August 1854,Democratic nomineeThomas Bragg won the election by a margin of 2,061 votes against his opponentWhig nomineeAlfred Dockery, thereby retaining Democratic control over the office of Governor. Bragg was sworn in as the 34thGovernor of North Carolina on 1 January 1855.[2]
