The1853 Connecticut gubernatorial election was held on April 4, 1853.[1][2][3] Incumbent governor andDemocratic Party nomineeThomas H. Seymour defeated former state legislator andWhig nomineeHenry Dutton and former state legislator andFree Soil nomineeFrancis Gillette with 51.01% of the vote.
Seymour would resign on October 13, 1853, to becomeMinister to Russia, andLieutenant GovernorCharles H. Pond served asacting governor until the following May.
