The1844 Kentucky gubernatorial election was held on 5 August 1844 in order to elect theGovernor of Kentucky.Whig nominee and formerSecretary of State of KentuckyWilliam Owsley defeatedDemocratic nominee and former member of theU.S. House of Representatives fromKentucky's 13th districtWilliam O. Butler.[1]
On election day, 5 August 1844,Whig nomineeWilliam Owsley won the election by a margin of 4,624 votes against his opponentDemocratic nomineeWilliam O. Butler, thereby retaining Whig control over the office of governor. Owsley was sworn in as the 16thgovernor of Kentucky on 27 August 1844.[2]
