The1841 Tennessee gubernatorial election was held on August 5, 1841, to elect theGovernor of Tennessee. IncumbentDemocraticGovernor and future American PresidentJames K. Polk lost re-election againstWhig nomineeJames C. Jones, thus becoming the first native-born Tennessean to be elected governor of the state.[1]
On election day, 5 August 1841,Whig nomineeJames C. Jones won the election by a margin of 3,243 votes against hisDemocratic opponent and incumbent GovernorJames K. Polk, thereby gaining Whig control over the office of Governor. Jones was sworn in as the 10th Governor ofTennessee on 15 October 1841.[2]
