The1840 Virginia gubernatorial election was held on 1 March 1840 in order to elect theGovernor of Virginia.Whig nominee and 18thSpeaker of theVirginia House of DelegatesThomas Walker Gilmer won the election in theVirginia General Assembly as he ran unopposed.[1][2]
On election day, 1 March 1840,Whig nomineeThomas Walker Gilmer easily won the election as he ran unopposed. Gilmer was sworn in as the 28thGovernor of Virginia on 31 March 1840.[3]
