1837 was the 51st season ofcricket in England since the foundation ofMarylebone Cricket Club (MCC).[note 1]Kent began a period of dominance as the "champion county".
Kent was proclaimedChampion County and this marks the beginning of a great period in the county's history. The team claimed a total of eight titles between 1837 and 1849. Mainstays of the Kent in those years includedAlfred Mynn,Fuller Pilch,Nicholas Felix,Ned Wenman andWilliam Hillyer.
