The1827 North Carolina gubernatorial election was held on 5 December 1827 in order to elect theGovernor of North Carolina.Democratic-Republican candidate and former member of theNorth Carolina House of RepresentativesJames Iredell Jr. was elected by theNorth Carolina General Assembly against fellowDemocratic-Republican candidate and former member of theU.S. House of Representatives fromNorth Carolina's 4th districtRichard Dobbs Spaight Jr.[1]
On election day, 5 December 1827,Democratic-Republican candidateJames Iredell Jr. was elected by theNorth Carolina General Assembly by a margin of 24 votes against his opponent fellowDemocratic-Republican candidateRichard Dobbs Spaight Jr., thereby retaining Democratic-Republican control over the office of Governor. Iredell was sworn in as the 23rdGovernor of North Carolina on 8 December 1827.[2]
