On election day, December 27, 1826, incumbentDemocratic-Republican governorHutchins Gordon Burton was re-elected by theNorth Carolina General Assembly, thereby retaining Democratic-Republican control over the office of governor. Burton was sworn in for his third term on December 29, 1826.[2]
