On election day, 8 December 1823, incumbentDemocratic-Republican governorSamuel Stevens Jr. was re-elected by theMaryland General Assembly, thereby retaining Democratic-Republican control over the office of governor. Stevens was sworn in for his second term on 5 January 1824.[2]
