Georgia cast eight electoral votes for theDemocratic-Republican candidate and incumbentPresidentJames Monroe, as he ran effectively unopposed. The electoral votes forVice president were cast for Monroe'srunning mateDaniel D. Tompkins fromNew York. These electors were elected by theGeorgia General Assembly, the state legislature, rather than by popular vote.[1]
