The1809 Tennessee gubernatorial election was held between 3 and 4 August 1809 in order to elect theGovernor of Tennessee.Democratic-Republican candidate andincumbent member of theTennessee House of RepresentativesWillie Blount defeated fellowDemocratic-Republican candidate, formerUnited States Senator fromTennessee andcandidate for Governor in the previous electionWilliam Cocke.[1]
On election day, 3 August 1809,Democratic-Republican candidateWillie Blount won the election by a margin of 5,251 votes against his opponent and fellowDemocratic-Republican candidateWilliam Cocke, thereby retaining Democratic-Republican control over the office of Governor. Blount was sworn in as the 3rdGovernor of Tennessee on 20 September 1809.[2]
