Agubernatorial election was held inVirginia on December 10, 1801.[4] The incumbentgovernor of VirginiaJames Monroe was re-elected.[1]

The election was conducted by theVirginia General Assembly in joint session.[3] Monroe was elected with a majority on the first ballot.[1]
