On election day, 13 April 1801, incumbentFederalist lieutenant governorJohn Treadwell won re-election by a margin of 7,028 votes against his foremost opponentDemocratic-Republican candidateEphraim Kirby, thereby retaining Federalist control over the office of lieutenant governor. Treadwell was sworn in for his fourth term on 14 May 1801.[2]
