The1777 Maryland gubernatorial election was held on 13 February 1777 in order to elect the FirstGovernor of Maryland. CandidateThomas Johnson was elected by theMaryland General Assembly againstSamuel Chase and other candidates.[1]
On election day, 13 February 1777,Thomas Johnson was elected by theMaryland General Assembly. Johnson was sworn in as the 1stGovernor of Maryland on 21 March 1777.[2]
