The15th Empire Awards ceremony (officially known as theJameson Empire Awards), presented by the Britishfilm magazineEmpire, honored the bestfilms of 2009 and took place on 28 March 2010 at theGrosvenor House Hotel inLondon,England.[1] During the ceremony,Empire presentedEmpire Awards in 11 categories as well as four honorary awards. TheDone In 60 Seconds competition was opened for the first time to international entries from this year.[2] Irish comedianDara Ó Briain hosted the show for the second consecutive year.[1] The awards were sponsored byJameson Irish Whiskey for the second consecutive year.[1][3]

In related events,Empire and Jameson Irish Whiskey held the 1st Done In 60 Seconds Competition Global Final[2] on 26 March 2010[4] at24 Club, London, England.[5] The team of judges consisted ofEmpireeditor-in-chiefMark Dinning,[6] EnglishactorJason Issacs[6] and Englishfilm director andtelevision directorEdgar Wright,[6] which selected from a shortlist of 20 nominees[4][5] the fiveDone In 60 Seconds Award finalists that were invited to the Empire Awards where the winner was announced.[4][5][6][7]

Avatar won the most awards with three includingBest Film andBest Director forJames Cameron. Other winners includedHarry Brown,In the Loop,Inglourious Basterds,Let the Right One In,Nowhere Boy,Sherlock Holmes andStar Trek with one.Jude Law received theEmpire Hero Award,Ian McKellen received theEmpire Icon Award,Andy Serkis received theEmpire Inspiration Award andRay Winstone received the Outstanding Contribution to British Film award. Mark Wong from the United Kingdom won theDone In 60 Seconds Award for his 60-second film version ofTop Gun.

Empire employee Kat Brown pioneered photolurking in the background of a picture withRupert Grint.[8]
