Asteroid
1189 Terentia , provisional designation1930 SG , is a carbonaceous Terentianasteroid from the outer regions of theasteroid belt , approximately 56 kilometers in diameter and the namesake of itsfamily . The asteroid was discovered by Russian astronomerGrigory Neujmin atSimeiz Observatory on 17 September 1930.[ 15]
Terentia is the namesake of theTerentia family (618 ), a small asteroid family of less than a hundred known members of a carbonaceousC-type composition orbiting in theouter main-belt.[ 4]
Terentia orbits the Sun at a distance of 2.6–3.3 AU once every 5.01 years (1,832 days). Its orbit has aneccentricity of 0.12 and aninclination of 10° with respect to theecliptic .[ 1] The body'sobservation arc begins at Simeiz, 5 days after its official discovery observation.[ 15]
Physical characteristics [ edit ] In theSMASS taxonomy , is classified as a Ch-type, a hydrated subtype of the carbonaceousC-type asteroids .[ 1]
Thisminor planet was named after Lidiya Terent'eva (1879–1933), female collaborator at the Simeis Observatory.[ 1]
