Its spiritual centre is theSv. Duh church, located 1 km north of Štrped in an eponymous hamlet. It was built in three phases. The first phase was a 13th centuryRomanesqueaisleless church of which a portal with stonelunette is all that remains. The second phase finished in the year 1500 and involved the addition of a lateGothic polygonalsacristy with a pointedvault. The third phase saw thenave covered with aBaroque roof and the addition of a semicircularloggia. Among themason's marks on the outer side of theapse is that of the "Carniolan Master",[a] also responsible forSv. Jurja church inOprtalj. The mainaltar was built in 1636, but an some remains of an older altar dating to the beginning of the 16th century persist. There is also agilded wooden side-altar. The church has been the subject of a number of works since 1969.[5][6]

By the time of its 1906 publication byLuka Jelić [hr],[7][b] a Glagolitic inscription dated 6 April 1500 had become known toepigraphers from the presbytery ofSv. Duha church in Štrped:

Ⱍ·ⰗⰮⰔⰜ
ⰒⰓⰋⰎⰀ ·
ⰄⰐⰬ ·Ⰵ·

The ⰒⰓ is written as aligature. The inscription was further mentioned byVjekoslav Spinčić in 1913,[8]Rudolf Strohal [hr] in 1915,[9]Radovan Ivančević [hr][5] andBranko Fučić[10] in 1969, with Ivančević providing a reproduction. Finally, an image of the inscription was published by Fučić in 1982.[11]: 339

Although the inscription is short, it played a prominent role in the debate betweenItalian irredentists andSlavs over the future of theJulian March.[12]
