Étienne Trocmé (8 November 1924 – 12 August 2002) was a French historian of the birth of Christianity. ANew Testament and Christianity of the 1st century scholar, Trocmé is the author of several works includingJésus de Nazareth (1972) andEnfance du christianisme (1997).
After he was a student at theÉcole Nationale des Chartes (1946) and theÉcole pratique des hautes études, Etienne Trocmé studiedliterature and theology from 1947 to 1950, then in 1950 passed hisState doctorate (1960)[1] He also spent one year at theUniversity of California, Los Angeles (1946-1947) and another one at theUniversity of Basel (1950–1951), where he familiarized with the German language and followed lessons byKarl Barth.
His biographer Christian Wolff mentions he did not wear his decorations.[3]
Étienne Trocmé wrote more than 200 articles and books translated into several languages.[3]
