Álvaro López-García (1941-2019) was a Spanish astronomer, professor of astronomy at theUniversity of Valencia and director of theValencia University Observatory during the years 1968-2000.[2][3] He was a specialist inastrometry and the dynamics ofminor planets, and had discovered numerous of these bodies since the early 1980s, in collaboration with astronomerHenri Debehogne.[1]
Themain-belt asteroid4657 Lopez, discovered byNikolai Chernykh in 1979, was named in his honor.[3]
