The 35th annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade took place from 1–4 p.m. New York time (17:00–20:00 UTC) on Sunday, October 19. People wanting to march with their dogs in the parade were required to sign up in advance and check in at the event.

Taskforce launched as search for Gus Lamont expands in South Australia's north

Police have launched a taskforce to search for August "Gus" Lamont in his family's station in the mid-north of South Australia, according to South Austrailian Police Commissioner Grant Stevens. The taskforce, announced October 14 and entitled Taskforce Horizon, will consist of specialists who would resume investigations into the situation.

Israeli naval ships intercept Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla

Israeli naval forces began intercepting the Global Sumud Flotilla on the night of October 1 about 70 nautical miles west of Gaza. By October 9 at least seven of the more than 450 people detained remain in custody, according to Israeli media reported. This flotilla is made up of civilian volunteers from various countries and aims to deliver humanitarian aid to war-torn Gaza. Israel commented the interceptions were part of a "lawful naval blockade".
