BNPT Declares ISIS a Terrorist Organization

TEMPO.CO,Jakarta - Chief of the National Counter-terrorism Agency (BNPT) Ansyaad Mbai, has said that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is categorized as a terrorist organization. Ansyaad quoted the Secretary General of United Nations Ban Ki-moon, tagging ISIS as terrorists.
"[Therefore] it will be legal violation for Indonesian citizens to involve in terrorism," Ansyaad told Tempo. He clarified that any supports towards ISIS by Indonesians violates constitution. He added that a citizen swearing allegiance to a foreign nation can lose his or her citizenship.
"There are plenty of Indonesian radical figures that have affiliation to ISIS leaders. [We] can charge them with citizenship law," he said.
Previously, a group of Indonesians are seen in a ISIS recruitment footage. They urged Indonesian moslems to join force. muslim di Indonesia untuk bergabung. Another case showed hundreds of ISIS supporters in Solo, Central Java, stating that they support ISIS and its leader Abu Bakar al Baghdadi.
