Possibly from or akin toProto-Germanic*aiwaz (compareGothic𐌰𐌹𐍅𐍃(aiws,age, eternity),Old Norseævi(lifetime),Englishaye). Another possibility is the borrowing from a Baltic language: compareLithuanianeigà(gait, flow) orLatvianeja(passageway, tunnel) (fromLithuanianei̇̃ti andLatvianiet respectively, both meaning 'togo').
