Usage notes
editCeres has long been counted as the first asteroid discovered. There has however been some confusion as to whether the classification of Ceres as a dwarf planet in 2006 means that it is no longer considered to be an asteroid.[1] TheMinor Planet Center, the organisation charged with cataloguing such objects, notes that dwarf planets may have dual designations,[2]and the joint IAU/USGS/NASAGazetteer categorizes Ceres as both an asteroid and a dwarf planet.[3]
