Etymology

edit

Exopassive of (OC*zrɯʔ, “to give or carry out an assignment; to serve”), literally “what has been assigned” (Schuessler, 2007).

Alternatively, based onGong (2000), STEDT derives it fromProto-Sino-Tibetan*r-dzas(thing), whenceBurmeseစာ(ca,thing) andTibetanརྫས(rdzas, thing, object, matter).
