Welcome toWikiProject Women in Red (WiR)! |
---|
Our objective is to turnred links intoblue ones. Our project's scope is women's representation on all language Wikipedias (biographies, women's works, women's issues, broadly construed). Did you know that, according toHumaniki, only20.13% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women? Not impressed?Content gender gap is a form ofsystemic bias, and this is what WiR addresses. We invite you to participate, whenever you like, in whatever way suits you and your schedule. Editors of all genders are equally and warmly welcome at Women in Red! |

January 2025 sees Women in Red introduce a new event, seeking biographies of women who are known for theirInternet personalities. There are thousands of women working in social media roles of celebrity and influencer. Their content creation output is seen on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. Their occupations include blogger, podcaster and online streamer.
As with all biographies, care should be taken to ensure thatarticles are based on acceptable independent sources. Notability cannot be established on the basis of blogs, social media or sites closely related to the subject of a biography. For further guidance, see ourTen Simple Rules.
We hope both inexperienced and seasoned editors will join us in creating biographies and other articles about women Internet personalities, as well as their achievements, writings, organisations, and awards.
This virtual editathon allows enthusiasts wherever they may be to participate in our initiative. Contributors are of course also welcome to add articles on any other women who deserve to be covered, for example under our #1day1woman priority.
Themain goals of the event are:
- to encourage inexperienced editors and show them how they can contribute to Wikipedia by creating biographies of prominent women
- to draw the attention of more experienced editors to the need for concerted action on combating the systemic bias against the coverage of women and women's works
Redlist (list of redlinked articles to be created)
editWe have a single list of redlinked women for this event. It includes social media personalities, content creators and influencers. Your challenge will be to find reliable sources to support their work.
