Taxonomy
editThe genusUrochroa was introduced in 1856 by the English ornithologistJohn Gould to accommodate therufous-gaped hillstar which is thus thetype species.[1][2] The genus name combines theAncient Greekoura meaning "tail" withkhroa meaning "colour" or "complexion".[3]
Thegreen-backed hillstar was formerly considered to be asubspecies of therufous-gaped hillstar.[4][5]
