TheThiérache (French pronunciation:[tjeʁaʃ];Picard:Quiérache) is a region ofFrance andBelgium united by similar geography and architecture, including the presence of hedgerows, grassland, hilly terrain, scattered settlements, and traditionally-built stone or brick houses with stone dividing walls and slate roofs.

Thiérache

Located in the north-east of theAisne department, it also spills over into parts of theNord andArdennes departments and theWalloon provinces ofHainaut andNamur. Its overall location is the western foothills of the Ardennes massif. Historically, its capital wasGuise, even though its largest settlement is nowFourmies. It is bisected by theroute nationale 2 between Paris and Brussels, whilst another important local route is theroute nationale 43 betweenCambrai andCharleville-Mézières.
