The Siege of Oxford is a 1689oil painting by the DutchartistJan Wyck.[1] It depicts theSiege of Oxford in 1646 during theFirst English Civil War.Oxford had functioned as theRoyalist capital throughout the war asLondon was inParliamentary hands. Following theBattle of Naseby a more concerted attack on Oxford was launched, withartillery batteries established onHeadington Hill to bombard the town into submission.[2] It provides an unusual, panoramic view of the manyfortifications defending the city.[3]
