Is he a Rusyn or Ukrainian?

[edit]

On the "Carpathian Ruthenia" under the Czech portion "Subcarpathian Rus'" he is described as being Rusyn but on this page there is no mention of it.

>The "National Council of Transcarpatho-Ukraine" was set misattributionup inMukachevo under the protection of the Red Army. On November 26 this committee, led byIvan Turyanitsa (a Rusyn whodeserted from theCzechoslovak army) proclaimed the will of Ukrainian people to separate from Czechoslovakia and joinSoviet Ukraine. After two months of conflicts and negotiations the Czechoslovak government delegation departed from Khust on February 1, 1945, leaving Carpathian Ukraine under Soviet control.

I did a quick translation on the Ukrainian page of him (just the beginning portion) and the page described him as Ukrainian. Is there more to this or is it just a mischaracterization? Furthermore, I understand Rusyns are referred to as Ukrainian - at least by the Ukrainian government if I recall correctly from my previous readings, but outside of that they are considered a distinct ethnic group in Slovakia, Poland, etc. Thanks.Koba (talk)05:30, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
