TD/SMP, short forTerminal Device/Session Management Protocol, was aterminal multiplexer system introduced byDEC on theirVT330/340 terminals in 1987. The terminal-side was referred to asSSU. TD/SMP allowed data from two separate host sessions to be sent to a compatiblecomputer terminal over a singleserial port. The format waspatented[1] and never described in depth, limiting it to DEC's ownterminal servers and terminals.
