Târgu Ocna (Romanian pronunciation:[ˌtɨrɡuˈokna];Hungarian:Aknavásár) is a town inBacău County,Romania. It administers two villages, Poieni and Vâlcele.

The town is situated on the left bank of theTrotuș River, an affluent of theSiret, and on a branch railway which crosses theGhimeș Pass fromMoldavia intoTransylvania. Târgu Ocna is built among theCarpathian Mountains on bare hills formed ofrock salt.[3] In fact, the English translation of Ocna issalt mine.
Târgu Ocna's main industry is salt production, as it is the largest provider in Moldavia. Other industries includewood processing,coal mining, steel producing, andpetroleum-based industries.
