Sochocin[sɔˈxɔt͡ɕin] is a town inPłońsk County,Masovian Voivodeship, in central Poland. It is the seat of thegmina (administrative district) calledGmina Sochocin.[1] It lies approximately 8 kilometres (5 mi) north-east ofPłońsk and 64 km (40 mi) north-west ofWarsaw.

The town has a population of 1,945.
History
editDuring thePolish–Soviet War, on August 14–15, 1920, it was the site of a battle between Poles and the invading Russian15th Army, won by the Poles.[2]
During theGerman occupation of Poland (World War II), in 1941, the German gendermerieexpelled the entire Polish population of the settlement, which was then enslaved asforced labour in the county and region, while the houses and farms were handed over toGerman colonists as part of theLebensraum policy.[3]
Sports
editThe localfootball club is Wkra Sochocin.[4] It competes in the lower leagues.
