TheSimplon Valley orDivedro Valley (German:Simplontal,Italian:Val Divedro) is a valley of theAlps, situated between thePennine and theLepontine ranges. The valley is drained by theDiveria orChrummbach, a tributary of theToce atCrevoladossola. The Simplon Valley is the only valley of Valais located south of themain chain of the Alps.



The highest mountains in the valley are theWeissmies (4,017 m), theLagginhorn (4,010 m) and theFletschhorn (3,993 m), all in the Pennine Alps. On the other side (Lepontine Alps), the highest summit isMonte Leone (3,553 m). The most important pass in the valley is theSimplon, connectingBrig toDomodossola.
The valley is politically divided betweenSwitzerland andItaly. The upper western part belongs to the Swiss canton ofValais and the lower eastern part belongs to the Italian region ofPiedmont. The international border runs from theCamoscellahorn to Monte Leone, reaching an altitude of 800 metres at valley floor.
The main localities areSimplon,Gondo (Switzerland),Iselle,Trasquera andVarzo (Italy).[1]
