Script Editor (calledAppleScript Editor from 2009 to 2014) is acode editor for theAppleScript andJavascript for Automation scripting languages, included inclassic Mac OS andmacOS.[1]
AppleScript Editor provides basicdebugging capabilities[2] and can save AppleScripts asplain text (.applescript), as acompiled script (.scpt), as ascript bundle (.scptd), or as anapplication (.app).[3][4] AppleScript Editor also handles script dictionary files, allowing the user to see what scripting classes and commands are available for each scriptable application installed on the computer.[5]
Prior toMac OS X 10.3, Script Editor was developed usingCarbon. 10.3 introduced a new Script Editor written usingCocoa. It was called AppleScript Editor fromMac OS X 10.6 to10.10, when the application added support for JavaScript for Automation.[6]
