TheSalt Fork of the Arkansas River is a 239-mile-long (385 km)[3]tributary of theArkansas River in southernKansas and northernOklahoma in theUnited States. Via the Arkansas River, it is part of thewatershed of theMississippi River.

Course
editThe Salt Fork rises inComanche County, Kansas, and flows initially southeastwardly throughBarber County, Kansas, andWoods County, Oklahoma, to the town ofAlva, where it turns eastwardly for the remainder of its course throughAlfalfa,Grant,Kay andNoble counties in Oklahoma, past the towns ofPond Creek,Lamont andTonkawa. It flows into the Arkansas River in southern Kay County, 7 miles (11 km) south ofPonca City.
In Alfalfa County, adam on the river impoundsGreat Salt Plains Lake, which is lined withsalt flats and is the site ofSalt Plains National Wildlife Refuge and astate park.
The Salt Fork's largest tributaries are theMedicine Lodge River, which joins it in Alfalfa County, and theChikaskia River, which joins it in Kay County.
