Radovan Pankov (Serbian Cyrillic:Радован Панков; born 5 August 1995) is a Serbian professionalfootballer who plays as adefender for Polish clubLegia Warsaw.

Club career
editVojvodina
editAs a youth player, Pankov developed under the supervision of Vojvodina youth coachMilan Kosanović.[3] He was a member of one of the most talented generations in Vojvodina's youth ranks, as his teammates at the time includedSergej Milinković-Savić,Mijat Gaćinović,Srđan Babić,Nebojša Kosović,Emil Rockov, andMilan Spremo.[3] He emphasized that Spremo was "by far the greatest talent of that generation".[3]
Pankov made his professional debut forVojvodina on 10 May 2014 in 1-0 home loss toJagodina.[4] In the summer of 2015, Pankov participated in Vojvodina's2015–16 UEFA Europa League qualifying campaign. On 30 July 2015, he played in a historic 0-4 away win againstSampdoria in the first leg of thethird qualifying round for the Europa League.[5] In an interview withMozzart Sport in August 2019, Pankov claimed that the best striker he ever played against wasLuis Muriel from the 2015 Europa League duel with Sampdoria.[3] The first leg win against Sampdoria ultimately helped Vojvodina make theplay-off againstViktoria Plzeň, after which Vojvodina was eliminated.
Ural Sverdlovskaya Oblast
editOn 23 May 2016, Pankov signed a long-term contract with Russian sideUral Sverdlovskaya Oblast.[6] He was the second player from Vojvodina to join Ural that spring, afterDominik Dinga.[3] Shortly after joining Ural, he suffered anadductor injury.[3]
On 30 June 2017, Pankov signed a one-season loan deal with Cypriot sideAEK Larnaca.[7]
Radnički Niš
editOn 20 June 2018, Pankov signed a three-year contract with Serbian clubRadnički Niš.[8] He played as a starter under coachNenad Lalatović, and Radnički Niš went on to finish second overall in the2018–19 Serbian SuperLiga. He was named byZajednica Super lige among the best eleven players in the entire league that season.[9]
Red Star Belgrade
editOn 31 May 2019, Pankov signed a three-year contract withRed Star Belgrade.[10] On 13 August 2019, he played a memorable match in the second leg of thethird qualifying round of the2019–20 UEFA Champions League againstCopenhagen. He markedDame N'Doye throughout the match and scored the winning penalty in apenalty shoot-out afterovertime.[3] Second round of the 2022-23 season he spend on loan inFK Čukarički.[11]
Legia Warsaw
editOn 13 June 2023, Pankov signed a three-year contract with PolishEkstraklasa clubLegia Warsaw.[11] On 5 October 2023, Radovan Pankov was arrested by Dutch police alongside teammateJosué Pesqueira after an altercation with security staff following a match againstAZ Alkmaar in thegroup stage of theUEFA Europa Conference League.[12] They were released the following day.[13] On 29 November, a spokesperson of the DutchMinistry of Justice and Security confirmed thatPublic Prosecution Service would be prosecuting Pankov for (attempted) serious assault of a member of AZ's security staff.[14] On 15 December 2023,UEFA charged AZ with a €40,000 fine for failing to provide security for the Polish side.[15]
On 15 August 2024, he contributed significantly to Legia Warsaw's advancement from thethird qualifying round to theplay-off stage of theUEFA Conference League, as they faced Norwegian clubBrøndby. He equalized with a header to make it1–1, which resulted in an aggregate score of 4–3, thereby ensuring the club's progression in the competition.[16][17]
International career
editPankov was selected by coachVeljko Paunović toSerbia's squad for the2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which Serbia ended up winning.
Personal life
editPankov's mother hailed fromHerzegovina.[3] His father, Miloš Pankov, was originally fromTovariševo[18] and played as aplaymaker forProleter Zrenjanin in Yugoslavia's third tier.[3] At one point he was a teammate withDarko Kovačević.[3] He was killed in a car accident when Pankov was 11 years old.[3]
