InGreek mythology,Porthaon (Ancient Greek: Πορθάων,genitive Πορθάονος), sometimes referred to asParthaon orPortheus (seems related to the verbportheō andperthō, "destroy'[1]), was a king ofCalydon and son ofAgenor orAres[2] byEpicaste and thus brother ofDemonice (also known asDemodice)[3] and possiblyThestius.[4]
Family
editPorthaon was the husband ofEuryte, daughter ofHippodamas, who became the mother of his children,Oeneus,Agrius,Alcathous,Melas,Leucopeus andSterope. In some account, his wifeLaothoe[5] bore him three daughters, Sterope,Eurythemiste andStratonice.[6] By an unnamed servant, Porthaon was the father of theArgonautLaocoön.[7]Dia, the consort of his son Agrius was also called his daughter.[8]
